The AGRHYMET Regional Centre was established in 1974 as a specialized institute of the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) composed of nine member States (Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal).

Le projet de Centre Climatique Régional (CCR) a pour objectif de Renforcer la chaine de valeurs des services climatiques dans les pays du Sahel et de l’Afrique de l’Ouest en vue de promouvoir l’information et la formation dans le domaine du climat. A cet effet, il bénéficie du financement de l’Union Européenne.

AGRHYMET provides differentiated climate information services in three of the five GFCS priority sectors: agriculture and food security, water, and disaster risk reduction. For all of these sectors, the user interface is institutionalized through the countries’ Multidisciplinary Working Groups that meet every ten day.
