2012年10月17日 · Fuel-line penetrations through the firewall should be made with steel bulkhead fittings. Be sure to route fuel lines as far away from exhaust pipes and mufflers as possible, with an absolute minimum clearance of 1½ inches.

All your fuel lines from the firewall forward should be flexible hoses (Aeroquip 303 or equivalent) with standard aircraft quality fittings. The gascolator should be mounted to some structure and not merely hung, unsupported, from the fuel line.

While you would normally use an aluminum line from the fuel pressure gauge to the firewall bulkhead fitting, the fuel pressure line inside the engine compartment (from the firewall to the fuel injector or carburetor) should be a flexible aircraft hose fabricated with standard metal fittings (see Figures 2, 3 and 4 below).

One of the best ways to pass fuel lines through a firewall is with the fuel bulkhead fitting (as shown in the photo). These fittings are commonly used with flared rigid tubing for fuel lines, but there are bulkhead fittings and adapters for flexible rubber lines as well.

Penetrations of fuel and other fluid plumbing running through all metal bulkhead fittings require little further consideration. For certified airplanes, the FARs tell us that bulkhead feed through fittings of steel or copper-alloy may be used with no concerns for compromising firewall integrity.

I know certified aircraft use solid fuel line prior to the firewall, but given a number of considerations, I would prefer using the flexible line. If need be, I can protect the line from getting pinched prior to the firewall by careful routing, or by using a short section of solid line in areas where this might be a significant risk.
