Alpine Lake Resort is just outside the town of Terra Alta West Virginia, in beautiful, rural West Virginia. It is also a short drive from Deep Creek Lake in rural western Maryland and just 20 minutes from the historic small town of Oakland, in Maryland.

Alpine Lake Resort has a rich and significant history in the mountains of West Virginia. Alpine Lake started in the late 1960s as “Mountaintop Vacationland,” a development spearheaded by Terra Alta and Preston County business leaders.

In the winter months, the average high temperature is 34° F at Alpine Lake Resort. With the lake as the center of the resort, there isn’t a bad view. The water may be frozen — and please do not go out on the ice — but the expanse generates a snow-globe-like experience.
