The African Medical Students Association at the International University of Africa (AMSA - IUA) is a body which collects the African Students studying in the different faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences in the University.

Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and among the top causes of mortality, along with HIV/AIDS and pneumonia. Tuberculosis prevalence is also high. The maternal mortality ratio remains above targets. Health indicators are improving but challenges remain, including inadequate referral systems and health workforce shortages.

Key health indicators show high infant and child mortality as well as maternal mortality. The healthcare system was previously centralized but is now decentralized and focused on primary care. The system aims to improve access through performance-based financing to health centers.
