Astos is the evil king of the Dark Elves in the original Final Fantasy. He is fought as a boss in the Western Keep where he is found disguised as a king. From Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls to 20th Anniversary Edition, Astos reappears in the Whisperwind Cove.

Astos was the Lufenian agent in Cornelia who masqueraded as the king of the dark elves, while being a organic reconnaissance unit tasked with helping Strangers play their roles as "Warriors of Light".

The only thing you really have to worry about is Death: it KOs upon contact, but it rarely connects. He has some -ara magic, but I usually kill him before he has a chance to use it.
