The "Beep" (also referred to as the SWBLW) is an individual switcher locomotive built in 1970 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway at its Cleburne, Texas, workshops.

The name most commonly heard in railfan circles, and one that just seems to fit somehow, is the "Beep," a contraction of Baldwin Geep. To be sure, Santa Fe didn't invent the concept of transplanting an EMD 567-series engine into a Baldwin switcher.

2020年11月25日 · The Beep was the prototype that proved it was uneconomical to rebuild Baldwin, Alco and Fairbanks-Morse switchers. Also, EMD had come up with the trade in program to help make it uneconomical and it also controlled the supply of rebuild parts.

The Beep was one of the very last instances of a Class 1 repowering a Baldwin. Railroads were buying fewer switchers in general, and even the CF7 roadswitchers that Cleburne did produce in quantity had relatively short lives.
