The updated B5N2 played a major role in the Attack on Pearl Harbor. One of the B5N2s carried Mitsuo Fuchida, the commander of the attack, with one high-level bomber from the carrier Hiryū credited with sinking the American battleship Arizona. The B5N2 torpedo bombers also sank the battleships West Virginia, California, Oklahoma and Utah.

In the opening minutes of the attack, 40 Kates savaged Battleship Row with torpedoes. When they finished, Oklahoma and West Virginia had sunk, and California and Nevada were sinking.

The B5N1 has an enlarged engine cowling - the B5N2 has a smaller one. B5N1 engine was the smaller and less powerful than the engine in the B5N2, the 1,115 hp Nakajima Sakae 21 radial. The B5N1 was replaced in frontline service by the N2 version in 1942. AFAIK, the B5n1 and B5N2 were identical externally with the exception of the nose area.

Nakajima B5N2 'Kate' When the Pacific War began the Nakajima B5N2 was the most modern type of carrier borne torpedo to be operated by any of the worlds navies, and on December 7, 1941, 144 aircraft of this type crippled the battleship force of the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor.

One flexible rear-firing 7.7mm Type 92 machine gun. The B5N2 used a 1115hp Sakae 21 engine and was armed with dual flexible 7.7mm in the rear cockpit and two 7.7mm fixed above the forward fuselage. Also known as the Type 97 Carrier Attack Bomber, "Kate" was the standard Japanese torpedo bomber at the start of the war.

2022年3月11日 · I am about to paint a 1/48 Hasegawa B5N2 Kate from the Pearl Harbor attack, specifically AII-356... I am seeking some insight on some aspects of panting the model. I'm sure some of this has been beaten to death on this and other forums but I haven't been able to find specific answers. 1.
