Aug 14, 2017 · BMW updated the hardware only once in the M3/M4 from NBT to NBT Evo in model year 2017 (and possibly 2016.5 model year cars) - NBT runs ID4, which is what the first M3/M4s came with, NBT Evo runs ID5/ID6. The new NBT Evo hardware has more capability (faster processor, more RAM etc) to support future capability.
