6397, Class SD40-2, was built in February 1972, #5803-1, FN 5803-1, as BN 6325, Class SD40-2. It was renumbered 1976 in April 1975 and renumbered 1876 in August 1975. It was renumbered 6325 in March 1980 and became BNSF 6397, Class SD40-2, on May 14, 1998.

BN Bicentennial #1876 was BN's first EMD SD40-2, originally delivered as road number 6325. When it was first painted in Bicentennial colors, it was not number 1876. It was Burlington Northern's 'original' Bicentennial number 1976. That is, until it was involved in a grade crossing accident on its very first run in Bicentennial paint.

BNSF #1916 (originally BN #6325) was the first SD40-2 delivered to the Burlington Northern in early 1972. The unit has since been retrofitted with remote control equipment, and is currently assigned to yard and local service like the rest of the remaining active SD40-2's used by BNSF.

Bicentennial SD40-2, BN 1876 was new as BN 6325. It became BNSF 6397 and later BNSF 1916. The U30C was one of four delivered to CBQ and was CS 892 in the Colorado & Southern fleet before getting numbered BN 5398 and lasted until 1986.

2017年1月15日 · Built in February 1972 BN 6325 was the class unit of the first order of SD40-2's. Eventually BN had a roster of a mere 838. The 6325 now 6397 continues with BNSF. I'm using the Kato SD40-2 model with the 81" nose and chicken wire radiator openings. Still don't know if I'm doing the Bicentennial unit or as built 6325.

BN #11 is westbound at Hatton, WA on the ex-NP between Spokane and Pasco 6-12-93 at 11:32 AM with SD40-2's 6325/7801/8129/7122 up front. This is one of the few times I let the entire train pass by.
