BNSF C44-9W #5518 at the Port of Long Beach on February 4, 2005. The GE C44-9W is a 4,400 hp (3,281 kW) diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems of Erie, Pennsylvania. Keeping in tradition with GE's locomotive series nicknames beginning with the "Dash 7" of the 1970s, the C44-9W was dubbed the Dash 9 upon its debut in 1993.

BNSF #4723 leads a baretable train eastbound at Summit in Cajon Pass. The Microsoft Train Simulator unit makes a rare appearance on the point of NS #245 north of Warner Robins, GA. Sporting its special logo, 4723 heads westward early in the morning. The Train Simulator C44-9W notches up with 2 other units while leaving Northtown.

This site is dedicated to archiving BNSF's Heritage I Dash-9 locomotives. This series of locomotives goes from #960 to #1123, and was the first full series of units to bear the Heritage I orange and green paint scheme of the combined railroads of Santa Fe and Burlington Northern.

2022年10月16日 · General Electric Dash 9-44CW diesels are available from Athearn (HO scale), Kato USA Inc. (HO and N), and ScaleTrains (HO and N). InterMountain Railway Co. is taking reservations for its N and HO scale models. Athearn offers its Dash 9 in the BNSF warbonnet paint scheme, and InterMountain lists the scheme among those it will be offering. BNSF Ry.

On October 21, 1999 BNSF Dash 9-44CW #989 is on the point of a mixed freight as it drops down into Mojave, CA. This train has 7 units and 6 ATSF/BN/BNSF paint schemes; from the front H1, SPSF "Kodachrome", BN Cascade green, Warbonnet, H2, BN green, and ATSF Yellow bonnet.

The CN 18xx are temporary numbers assigned to the GECX ex-BNSF Dash-9 destined to be rebuilt in the CN 33xx/34xx.

Building on the success of the era-defining Dash 8 series, the General Electric-built Dash 9 is recognized as one of the most popular freight locomotives in modern history. Packing 4,400 horsepower, the Dash 9 has seen service with almost all class-one railroads, and can still be found leading priority road freights across North America.

Following a catastrophic derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, on February 3, 2023, FRA conducted a safety culture assessment of the accident-involved railroad, Norfolk Southern Railway (NS), between March 15 and May 15, 2023.
