BNSF Railway and Vehicle Projects converted a GG20B to an experimental testbed, for the use of hydrogen fuel cells. The new locomotive is designated HH20B. The locomotive was publicly demonstrated for the first time on June 29, 2009, at Topeka, Kansas. [6][7]

2023年7月16日 · Upon arrival, the unit’s innards were stripped out and the railroad’s engineers were tasked to redesign the space for hydrogen fuel cell apparatus and specially designed hydrogen storage tanks. After more than two years of on-again, off-again work, the unit, now BNSF HH20B No. 1205, rolled into the sunlight on June 29, 2009.

CP 1704 was among the first of a 35-unit order by Canadian Pacific. CP 1700-1706 were to be constructed in 2005 for testing. From CP Railway press release 3-14-2005. It was returned to Topeka for more modifications, and came here to Mid-America Car once again to paint the middle section of the long hood, which was primer. Locomotive: BNSF 1205 . 4-5-14.
