Bart Hoogenboom is a Professor of Biophysics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy (UCL) and the London Centre for Nanotechnology, where he is also lead scientist for its atomic force microscopy facilities. He was initially trained as a solid-state physicist, working on correlated-electron systems and scanning probe microscopy.

Since 2007, he has led a biophysics lab at the London Centre for Nanotechnology, UCL, first as lecturer (UK eq. assistant professor), next as reader (from 2013; UK eq. associate professor) and since 2016 as (full) professor.

We use advanced microscopy techniques to discover how biological molecules interact which each other and self-organise to collectively carry out tasks that are important for health and disease, with atomic force microscopy (AFM) as our favourite tool.
