In my current playthrough, Loki's telescope just caught on fire, and he died. Even those eventually fail. I had an 800 mL Pyrex beaker I was boiling water in on a hotplate separate from its bottom. I didn't realize it until I went to move it and it left the bottom on the hotplate and water went all over the work surface in the fume hood. Luckily it was just water.
