So pop of the cover plate, there's a slot you stick a flat bladed screwdriver into (I think I see it at 2 o'clock), unscrew the knob and remove it. Then lube up the mechanism from the inside as well as along the bolt on the outside. Reassemble and screw down the 2 screw LOOSELY and try it, jiggle the knob if needed. It should operate freely.

2015年8月2日 · Yes, this is just a lump of metal, big enough that it doesn't matter a lot what you lube it with. (I'd lean more to a grease than an oil -- lithium grease used with a light touch, perhaps.) But it also shouldn't need lubrication on a regular basis, so I suspect you've got something else going on.

You don't want to use a lubricant like WD-40, because it will not evaporate completely and will collect dirt and debris and eventually freeze the lock again. For an exterior lock exposed to the elements, you'll want to reapply the lubricant occasionally (about once every year or two depending on the weather), or anytime the lock seems sticky.

The properties that make it a good choice are that it is dry so it won't attract dust, it can get into very small spaces and it is not affected by cold or heat. It used to be dissolved in alcohol brushed onto the pieces. when the alcohol evaporated it left the graphite in place.

2015年4月22日 · My vote goes to a product called Super Lube. It is PTFE (if you're DuPont you call it Teflon) (Polytetraflouroethylene) and is food grade. It works at a very wide range of temperatures. It also works great for guns. I used it on the washers in a pressure reducing valve to keep them from deforming and to help seal them. Works great!

2021年1月13日 · Probably best practice to wipe the threads down but with residential gas pipes usually carrying no more than 2psi, I’m not too worried about leaks if you’ve taped the threads. Tape is all my plumber used (no dope) on a recent large job for me and he said the tape is really just a lubricant to help you tighten the fittings.
