Of course, you have to SSH tunnel it to make it secure... The second was X11vnc's ability to attach to native X screens or virtual framebuffers.

2009年6月16日 · Tight VNC works best with Windows Vista/XP/2K3/2K8/7, either 32bit or 64bit. We use it with our Customer sites, over 8,000 machines. Issue with RealVNC/UVNC with XP to 2008, works ok, but from 2008 to XP, Vista, 7 doesn't work too well. Disconnects out of the blue.

Some VNC (UltraVNC, RealVNC) solutions have a latency of 1-2 seconds - even if connected directly over a switch. Anyone experience with that? What would be the best software solution? Are there (preferably free) alternatives to VNC on Linux? Is there different remote desktop technologies for Linux or is it all based around VNC? EDIT: Thanks symcbean for your comment, good point. I find the network performance of RDP much faster than VNC. I am currently using tightVNC, but I do not want to compromise the quality for speed.

Edit 2022-04-05: xrfb is, no my knowledge, not the same as xvfb. Someone suggested an edit changing this to xvfb, but I think xvfb is not actually an answer to the question of how to VNC into an existing session. But xrfb no longer exists in debian/ubuntu, it seems, and seems to generally have been disappeared from the Internet.
