Bewcastle is a large civil parish in the Cumberland unitary authority area of Cumbria, England. It is in the historic county of Cumberland. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 411, reducing to 391 at the 2011 Census. [1] The parish is large and includes the settlements of Roadhead and Sleetbeck.

Bewcastle is an isolated village steeped in Roman and Border history. The church, farm, and castle occupy the site of a Roman out post fort which guarded the Maiden Way, the main Roman road north from Birdoswald on Hadrian’s Wall some 10km (6 miles) to the south.

Our small exhibition was opened in Febrary 2014 and tells the story of Bewcatle past and resent. The museum can be found to the right inside the church yard.
