You are working in the US as “at will” meaning you can be terminated - voluntarily or involuntary - without notice / at any time / on a whim. And don’t take the retention offer - you’ll be a marked man if you do. Agree.

It can be a great milestone to get to the point where you have direct reports since manager (people leader) positions can be a less structure/natural progression outside of the Big 4.
