USS Boston (CA-69/CAG-1), a Baltimore -class heavy cruiser and later a Boston -class guided missile cruiser, was the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the U.S. city of Boston, Massachusetts.

Initially commissioned as a BALTIMORE - class heavy gun cruiser, the USS BOSTON was the sixth ship in the Navy to bear the name. During World War II, the ship operated in the Pacific. Following the Japanese surrender, the BOSTON remained in the Far East on occupation duty until February 28, 1946.

In early January 1952 the heavy cruiser USS Boston, a 13,600 ton Baltimore class heavy cruiser completed in June 1943, was redesignated CAG-1. Towed from the Pacific Coast to Camden, New Jersey, during the next few months, she began a lengthy conversion that made her into the Navy's first guided missile cruiser.
