What is a SNOUT? A SNOUT is a vented fiberglass stormwater structure and catch basin hood that improves water quality. They are is installed over the outlet pipe in a storm water structure with a sump that skims oils, floatables and trash off of the surface water while letting settleable solids sink to the bottom.

The SNOUT is a vented hood or trap that helps to separate pollutants that float (like trash and oils) from pollutants that sink (like sediment and grit). The SNOUT's handy access port allows for easy access to the outlet pipe.

Basic Application: The SNOUT Oil-Water-Debris Separator is a patented plastic composite hooded outlet cover that attaches to the wall of a stormwater catch basin or other water-quality structure over the outlet pipe in such a manner as to prevent the exit of floating debris and oil. SNOUT forms a baffle in the structure which collects floatable debris and free oils on the surface of the captured stormwater, while permitting heavier solids to sink to the bottom of the sump. The clarified intermediate layer is forced out of the structure through the open bottom of the SNOUT by displacement from incoming flow.
