The USCG 65' small harbor tug is a class of fifteen tugs used by the United States Coast Guard for search and rescue, law enforcement, aids-to-navigation work and light icebreaking. The tugs are capable of breaking 18 in (0.46 m) of ice with propulsion ahead and 21 in (0.53 m) of ice backing and ramming. [2] .

Their primary missions are domestic ice breaking, port security, search and rescue, and law enforcement operations on rivers and inland areas.

USCGC Bollard (WYTL-65614) is a cutter in the U.S. Coast Guard. Bollard is a small icebreaking harbor tug that operates in Long Island Sound and north to Narragansett Bay. Her homeport is New London, Connecticut. [3] . She was constructed at Western Boat, in Tacoma, Washington in 1966 and was commissioned in February 1967.

These tugs are capable of breaking flat ice up to 12" thick, and can break thicker ice when backing and ramming. Simple is best, built in the 60s these workhorses are still going strong, a sight to behold and a fun ride in the ice, USCG CWO RET.
