Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is common, harmful, and treatable. CKD is now recognised as a public health problem because of its association and interactions with other vascular diseases. Primary care has a pivotal role in educating the public, alongside early identification and integrated management of CKD.

When a QOF related contractual dispute arises, the commissioner and contractor would be expected to make every reasonable effort to communicate and co-operate with each other with a view to resolving the dispute without the need to refer it for formal determination by NHS Resolution (Primary Care Appeals) (or in certain cases, the courts).

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease and in February 2006 was added to the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) for primary care in the UK.
