CPU usage peaked at 60%-80% during the full scan, for two hours. Please provide additional troubleshooting on this. what needs to be done in order to normalize CPU usage.

2018年1月26日 · I have the same problem, after a minute or so my CPU jumps straight to the red zone, way up there at 100%. My computer starts sounding like a jet engine. I have to cancel the scan, otherwise it will probably damage my hardware. It does this when it starts to scan my C: drive(SSD), that's where my OS is.

2019年7月5日 · On the right hand pane, double-click on Windows Defender Scheduled Scan. On the General tab, uncheck the option Run with highest privileges. 2019年8月9日 · The update failed to install the first time, but now it's done. A new custom scan on C went instantly to 100% cpu usage, with Defender itself taking up 96%. It didn't go down at all for the short time I watched it before cancelling scan, so this just made things worse. My Windows install is on an SSD named Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB.

2017年3月24日 · CPU temps of 25-35 C are fine. Windows Defender and SFC getting your temps high up may mean there is a software issue meddling with the temp readings from the sensors. Your CPU readings are not very high when you run WD and SFC. I just ran Windows Defender and checked CPU temps with my i7-4790.

2021年4月25日 · When I run a Full Scan in Windows Defender the program uses 100% of my CPU and makes nearly all other programs unusable. When I did this previously it seemed like Defender decreased CPU usage depending on what was needed but now it always uses near 100% of the CPU and slows everything down.

Can someone please explain the windows defender setting on limiting CPU usage?? The setting is very vague and nonspecific. It says: "Limit CPU usage during scan" and then you get to a percentage (ie. 10%, 50%, 100%)
