The EMD F40PH is a four-axle 3,000–3,200 hp (2.2–2.4 MW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in several variants from 1975 to 1992. Intended for use on Amtrak 's short-haul passenger routes, it became the backbone of Amtrak's diesel fleet after the failure of the EMD SDP40F.

An F40 designation would be a freight loco, and could not provide the electrical demands of passenger cars. All of CSX's 4 units are equipped to handle passenger trains (the "P" and "H" in their locomotive type designation).

One of the new F40's will be assigned to the track geometry train which will free up GP40-2 #6025 which is currently assigned to the train. The second unit will serve as a backup for the 2 units on the business train, negating the need to pull a freight unit out of service should one of the F40's suffer problems.

2023年7月7日 · Catching and photographing the CSX executive train in its distinctive and attractive Baltimore & Ohio inspired livery has been on my “to do” list ever since the scheme debuted. But the executive train doesn’t operate all that often and when it does you have to be in the right place at the right time.

Can anyone verify the previous CSX road numbers for repainted F40’s #1 and 2? Thanks in advance! The AC44s previously holding those numbers are now CSXT 173 and 174, …

2006年1月24日 · I just looked up CSX on the diesel shop, http://www.thedieselshop.us/CSX.HTML, noticed they had picked up two more F40PH-2’s from amtrak. Why can’t Norfolk Southern do the same thing. I bet the F40’s would look great in NS black or tucson red.
