Papua New Guinea’s first National Adaptation Plan (NAP) 2022-2030 is designed as a strategic framework to support efforts led by Papua New Guinea’s Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) to address climate change impacts.

Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) is a PNG Government Statutory Body. CCDA is the coordinating entity for all climate change related policies and actions in the country. Additionally, it is the designated National Authority under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Climate Change Management Act of 2015 positioned PNG favorably to protect its forests and engage in carbon trading.

The Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA) was established in 2010 to coordinate and implement Papua New Guinea’s climate change policies and programs. PNG is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change due to its low-lying coastal areas, high exposure to natural disasters and reliance on subsistence agriculture.

CCDA as the Designated National Authority (DNA) provides overall coordination and monitoring of all climate change related issues, activities and programs in all regulated sectors of PNG. Also, CCDA is focal on climate change to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Key areas under this Agreement include these four crucial areas:

PNG’s REDD+ and Forest Monitoring Web-Portal was established for disseminating forest and land use information to public for ensuring the transparency of PNG REDD+ process. The web portal was developed jointly by CCDA and PNGFA.
