Why is my CEA level normal, but I was diagnosed as colon cancer?
2023年7月12日 · My CEA was < 2.0 in March 2023 prior to my colon surgery in April. I had a cancerous polyp discovered during my colonoscopy in February. My understanding is that the CEA blood test gave the surgeon an idea if the cancerous antigens had entered my blood stream through the blood vessels in the wall of the colon and had traveled to other organs.

I also had routine colonoscopies when I turned 50(completely clear) and 60( removed benign polups. I am 62. My CEA number from the recent blood test showed my CEA to be 4.9(which the company puts an average range of 0.2.5 or up to 3.0.

2023年9月25日 · Given the huge number of possible cancer markers (CA19-9 being just one of many), it doesn't make sense for every person to get every test at every physical. CEA might be one exception that is common to more cancers. It's not a sole diagnostic marker for or against any cancer, but might have more bang for the buck than others.

2022年8月20日 · My mother was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer on January 20 of this year. Her CEA level was normal (2.6; her hospital has a normal range between 0.0 and 3.8). She had a complete mastectomy on March 3 and started 4 rounds of TC chemo on March 30. She was T1CN0 with no lymph node involvement. On March 16, her CEA went to 3.9.

2022年4月26日 · I was diagnosed with Colon cancer stage last year 12/23. My surgery was done on 01/11/22 since then I have been following with Blood test every three months. My CEA level after surgery was 0.9 03/01/22. Second CEA 1.2 06/01/22 Was done by Labcorp. Third CEA 1.0 09/01/2022 was done by Emory and the recent one was done at Labcorp 12/19 CEA ‘1.9’.

I have a rather rare form of cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, and there is a blood test that can be used (CgA) that is often elevated, but when follow up tests are done, it does not reflect any new cancer. Lab tests should not be taken as a sole indicator of cancer activity.
