Students entering department programs in 2018W and later must complete Term 1 of the third year before entering Term 2 of the third year. The official program curricula, course descriptions, and complementary courses can be found in the UBC Academic Calendar.

CHBE Graduate Students can refer to the CHBE Graduate Handbook for the course requirements for their program. Research students must consult with their supervisors before registering for courses including courses taken outside of the department. Course offerings change annually. All student course selections must be approved.

UBC’s acclaimed program in Chemical & Biological Engineering combines classroom learning with interactive, hands-on instruction in well-equipped learning laboratories. Students further expand their horizons through co-op placements, industrial-site visits and research opportunities with our world-leading, award-winning research faculty.

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering and to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering.

Selection of electives from a range of topics prepares chemical and biological engineers for meaningful, satisfying and productive careers in industry, government and academia in British Columbia, Canada and other regions of the world.

Chemical & Biological Engineers have a strong understanding of how the physical, chemical and biological sciences intersect, complemented with mathematics. Chemical & Biological Engineers are also trained in safety, the environment, economics and management.

CHBE 488 588 is designed to train the next generation of carbon capture, conversion, and sequestration (CCCS) professionals on relevant and cutting edge technologies, policy, and regulatory framework.
