This rear axle was available in GM's high-performance intermediate cars, full-size vehicles and light-duty trucks. The 12-bolt rear end was introduced in the early 1960s and was used from 1964 to 1972 in GM cars.

2009年3月12日 · GM's policy at that time was any engine with an advertised horsepower of 300 or more would get a 12-bolt rear end. So not only SS396 series (66-68), SS-optioned Malibus (69-72), and 1965 327s got a 12-bolt to include the L48 350/300. The rear end will NOT have a partial VIN stamped on it, but rather just the ratio code and its assembly date.

2009年12月21日 · This rear end is a strong as the 8.5 10 bolt, plus it doesn't have c clip axles. Performance parts are available for it, but they are more expensive than Chevy parts. Jim at www.jdrace.com builds a lot of these. He might be able to get parts cheaper for them. I wouldn't throw it away. Someone might want to use it.

2010年2月23日 · It probably is located on one of the webs facing the rear. The axle code of CB and the gears do match as 3.36 ratio and with a 1965 date. So I expect the June assembly date to be in 1965 and should be verified with the casting date.
