Jirisan (Korean: 지리산) is a mountain located in the southern region of South Korea. It is the second-tallest mountain in South Korea after Jeju Island 's Hallasan, and is the tallest mountain in mainland South Korea. [2] The 1915m-high mountain is located in Jirisan National Park.

Chiri-san is located in the Chirisan National Park at the southern end of the Sobaek Mountain Range. It is the second highest mountain in South Korea with it's main peak Chonwangbong (which literally translates as "Sky King Peak") towering at 1,915 meters high.

this is the highest peak of Chiri-san, and a popular hiking spot for Korean hikers. It can be done in one long day trip - about 8 hours of steep hiking. If you continue on the ridge, make sure to make reservations at the shelter.

Jirisan is one of the most beloved mountains in Korea. There are many hiking trails that are well-known for their exquisite landscape. The classic ridge hike is the one that walks on the 25.5km main ridge from Nogodan Peak to Cheonwangbong Peak, which is the second tallest peak in South Korea after Hallasan (1950 m) on Jeju Island.

In August of 2019 my hiking buddy, Calvin, and I set off to climb Cheonwangbong, the highest peak on mainland South Korea. Hiking in Jirisan has been at the top of “my list” for the longest time (save Piagol Valley), but I just never got around to this one until now. This was the hardest hike that I’ve completed to date.
