Nov 3, 2021 · I have a Contend SL2. The difference to a TCR of the same year, in the same size, was the TCR has a longer top tube, more reach, a lower stack height, and slightly shorter chainstays. All that is generally going to result in a position on the bike that will be more stretched out and lower at the handlebar.

The Contend name has just taken over as the non-carbon Defy(but for some reason they kept the Defy Advanced name). I own a Defy and tried a Contend at a shop and couldn't tell the difference. If the frame changes improve things, it is on a very small scale.

I've since upgraded the stock tires to Specialized Pathfinder Pros, which are more of a gravel tire, and I've taken it on some singletrack/MTB trails around my area, which it handled pretty well! Feels plenty fast, and honestly if you're worried about capability, don't be.
