T he Copper John really needs no introduction. It is among the most popular names in the world and has caught Trout almost everywhere. Designed by legendary fly tyer John Barr, it can be found in almost every fly shop in any corner of the world.

At first glance, the Copper John looks more “mechanical” than most trout patterns. Rather than fur and feathers, it features more metal bead and wire. In fact, in the first versions of the fly, Barr wrapped copper-colored wire directly onto the hook.
