The seventh USS Ranger (CV/CVA-61) was the third of four Forrestal -class supercarriers built for the United States Navy in the 1950s. Although all four ships of the class were completed with angled decks, Ranger had the distinction of being the first US carrier built from the beginning as an angled-deck ship.

It is estimated that over 50,000 men served on USS Ranger (CVA/CV-61) from her commissioning in 1957 to her decommissioning in 1993. We must preserve her high standards of performance and accomplishments by joining and contributing to the historical significance of our great ship, and perpetuate our motto, " Top Gun – Bar None!"

When complete, the USS Ranger displaces 57,200 tons under light load and up to 82,000 tons under full load. Her dimensions include a length of 1,046 feet, a beam of 130 feet, and a draft of up to 37 feet. Installed power includes 8 Babcock & Wilcox boilers powering 4 geared steam turbines producing 280,000 hp on 4 shafts under the stern.

The USS Ranger (CV/CVA-61) was a Forrestal-class Aircraft Carrier, built in Newport News, Virginia, with the hull number CV-61 in order to differentiate it from the previous USS Ranger with the hull number CV-4. Its active service lasted for 37 years since it was commissioned in 1957 and until 1993 when it was decommissioned.

During deployments a VRC (Fleet Tactical Support Squadron) detachment provides carrier-on-board delivery and is embarked aboard the carrier but is no real part of the Air Wing. These detachments are not listed below. Pearl Harbor, Hi.
