Rosa indica is a species rose native to southern China, Northern Indo-China and Taiwan. It is a medium sized rose with red semi-double to double flowers. No fragrance. Included here are wild roses as well as crosses between two species. They are the ancestors of modern roses and are distinguished by often being resistant to pests and diseases.

China: shoots and leaves eaten. A decoction is also made from these plant parts. Children reportedly eat the young shoots in the Spring, after removing the fibrous, spiny layer. Java: young shoots eaten.
