How to identify early D44? - Pirate 4x4
Jun 11, 2009 · All of the D44 identification details I can find show the date code followed by the BOM (6xxxxx) on the front tube. I have what I believe to be an early Blazer axle. Where the date code would be it reads 1 26 4A4 Where the BOM would be it reads 27732X The ring gear is stamped 1/27/73 but I think the axle is older than that.

D44 hub and lockout info needed - Pirate 4x4
Jul 10, 2006 · Here is what I ended up with: The axle housing is 77.5 to 79 HP D44 with 1/2" tubes. The outers were 76-77 F250. I had a very hard time finding alloy outers in the longer 76-77 version. They are 10.66" and the inners are 34.75" and 18.62". I wanted to go with Alloy USA because of the 10 year warranty.
10 bolt vs. D44 - Pirate 4x4
Aug 2, 2006 · the D44 is trussed a little bit better than the 10 bolt so the housing on the 44 is going to be slightly stronger and I think the spindle and bearings of the 44 a bit bigger. having been said, the axles are equal, the 10 bolt breaks just as easily as the D44, anything over a 33" tire and you are going to be breaking axles, hubs, spider gears, R ...

HP Dana 44 with 30 spline outers - Pirate 4x4
Sep 4, 2004 · The only way I know of to get a 30 spline stub axle on a D44 is to use D30 outers. This can be with CJ knuckles on the D44 inner C's or use TJ inner C's and knuckles. Warn makes a premium hub kit for both the CJ knuckles and the TJ/YJ/XJ/ZJ knuckles that uses a 30 spline chromo stub axle.
d44 from 79 ramcharger - Pirate 4x4
Oct 21, 2008 · the d44 front from the 75-79 dodges sucked. They are full time axles with a small lug pattern and wheel bearings that are too close together to really support any tire over 30". my 79 trailduster had 33" on it and the wheel bearings wore out about every 30k miles with just street driving AND proper lubrication (according to previous owner, a ...
Increasing D44 steering angle - Pirate 4x4
Jun 1, 2010 · My wife and daughter could break a d44 axle by thinking about turning when they were in the stock mod class. I would not waste the time on a d44. going past the 40* stock angle things get very unhappy and will kill d44 stuff. Wayne
