Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) – Types, Working
What is DAC (Digital to Analog Converter)? Digital to analog converter is an electronic circuit that converts any digital signal (such as binary signal) into an analog signal (voltage or current). The digital signal such as the binary signal exist in the form of bits & it is the combination of 1’s & 0’s (or High & low voltage levels).
Binary Weighted Digital to Analogue Converter (DAC)
DAC’s convert binary or non-binary numbers and codes into analogue ones with its output voltage (or current) being proportional to the value of its digital input number. For example, we may have a 4-bit digital logic circuit that ranges from 0000 to 1111 2, (0 to F 16) which a DAC converts to a voltage output ranging from 0 to 10V.
Digital to Analog Converter (DAC or D-to-A) is a device that converts digital codes to an analog signal. There are many categories of DACs. Some of these categories include sigma-delta DACs, pulse width modulators, interpolating and high speed DACs. In this paper the focus will be on the interpolating and high speed DACs.
