Under the FFS model, hospitals were reimbursed for each individual healthcare service provided, which created incentives to increase the number of services during a patient’s hospitalization.

2021年6月1日 · Currently, China is piloting diagnosis-related groups (DRG) payment system in 30 cities. The main aim of this study was to explore the respondents’ impressions regarding the hospitals’ policies and physicians’ behavior change brought by the DRG payment system, and investigate whether and how the hospitals’ policies affect the physicians’ behavior.

The primary objectives of the Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) and Diagnosis-Intervention Pair (DIP) reforms in China focus on improving cost efficiency, optimizing resources, and standardizing healthcare practices.

The second version of DRG which has been implemented in China is the CHS-DRG, which is used for health insurance payment. In 2019, the National Healthcare Security Administration launched the DRG payment reform in 30 piloting cities across the country, using the CHS-DRG which comprises a total of 376 adjacent-DRG groups and 618 DRG subgroups.
