The DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan (T/IPP) is required (by J-1 regulations) for all exchange visitors in the categories of Intern, Trainee, and Student Intern.

The DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan is a federal document that outlines the specific learning goals, tasks and projects, supervisors, cultural activities, and metrics of success for an exchange visitor’s training/internship program.

A formal training plan outlined on Form DS-7002 is required by the U.S. Department of State; it is an integral part of Internship USA and Career Training USA. The training plan is designed and the form completed by the host organization; it is then agreed to by the intern or trainee.

Once issued, the prospective exchange visitor and their spouse or children can apply for a J-1 or J-2 nonimmigrant visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate. The Office of International Education (OIE) has discontinued the issuance of paper DS-2019 and DS-7002 forms to J-1 visa holders and instead issues digitally signed electronic DS-2019/DS-7002 forms.
