Dalton is a transition town between the urban and rural portions of Berkshire County. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 6,330 at the 2020 census.

The Dalton Board of Assessors serves the public with information on real estate, personal property, motor vehicle excise and chapter land assessments, in addition to tax mapping within the Town. Both abatement and exemption requests are processed in the Assessor’s Office.

2023年5月1日 · The Town Clerk keeps all Town records, such as birth and death records for all residents, marriage records for those who apply for their marriage license in the Town of Dalton, minutes of town meetings and election results, and appointments to and resignations from all town boards and committees.

2025年1月28日 · The Town of Dalton won a million-dollar grant through the state’s MassWorks program for repaving Orchard Road, along with doing additional drainage work to keep the road in good condition. Residents have been calling for repairs for years, and this project is expected to address all their concerns.

The Town of Dalton Highway/Cemetery/Sewer Department is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of part of the town’s infrastructure: roads, sewers, drainage, cemeteries, and parks. The Highway department provides maintenance, plowing and sanding of streets, along with cleaning and improving sewer and drainage systems.
