RK05 - Wikipedia
The RK05 was a moving head magnetic disk drive manufactured by DEC. [5][a] It stored approximately 2.5 MB on a 14", single-platter IBM-2315 -style front-loading removable disk cartridge. The cartridge permitted users to have relatively unlimited off-line storage and to have very fast access to such data.

The RK05 was moving-head magnetic storage disk drive, most versions of which used removable packs. They were designed and manufactured by DEC, and were based on, but not completely compatible with, the earlier RK02 and RK03 drives (which were sold by DEC, but not manufactured by them), which in turn were inspired by the IBM 2315 drive and pack.
History (1972): DEC RK05 Cartridge Disk Drive
2019年2月12日 · The RK05 cartridge for DEC (and the Diablo 31 for other minicomputer companies) became the preferred personal portable storage device. It enabled ‘load and go’ of different OSs on the PDP-11 and PDP-8, provided essentially unlimited offline data storage, and provided data interchange among compatible systems.

The RK11-D controller supports up to eight RK05 *logical* drives. There is a distiction between logical drive and physical drive. The physical drive RK05 or RK05J counts as one logical drive, but the physical drive RK05/f counts as two logical drives, of which the first logical drive has an even number assigned.

2021年3月18日 · DEC had the RK05 exerciser but these are probably impossible to find. So I've drawn a PCB to interface with the disk. The test routines are described in the RK05 exerciser documentation. The idea is to put an Arduino Due on the board and plug it into the drive. Or use an Unibus cable and two H851 blocks. Then you could use the board outside the ...

2010年2月1日 · I have several RK05 drives, a RK11-D backplane and board set from Conmega, and a RLV11-D that came with the MINC-23 (which is also where some of the RK05 drives are from). I'm starting into them in an effort to have a good baseline system to test with for some upcoming customer work, as well as just to get my RK05s online and usable.
