In a series of publications we will explain in detail, the differences between DENSO ND-oil 8 and ND-oil 12 and -what we call- (ordinary) PAG oils. After reading these publications you will understand why it is important to choose the right type of DENSO oil.

According to Denso, ND-8 is equivalent to PAG 46, which would suggest that the viscosity isn't what it should be:

DENSO compressor oil keeps the A/C compressor lubricated, ensuring it itself stays cool and friction-free so it can continue to perform under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. The oil also ensures that the rubber seals in the refrigerant lines and connections are protected, preventing the likelihood of leaking or damage.

DENSO uses ND-oil 8 for its R134a type refrigerant compressors, a PAG 46 oil. The new refrigerant type uses ND-oil 12, also a PAG 46 oil but with additives specifically for the R1234yf type refrigerant.

ND-oil 8 and ND-oil 12 are premium quality compressor oils, produced by Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. This Japanese oil company operates on a global level and is active in different business domains like fuel, oils, basic chemicals and renewable energy.
