As for the processor stuff, the great thing is that we have a choice. Actually, that's true of ham gear in general; there's lots of good used stuff out there, as well as lots of good parts.

My present equipment is IC-7800 (put on the air 10-30-2008 ) (used a FT-1000 from 1995) a Drake L7(replaced with PW-1 DEC 2014) amp and the antenna is a large Quad. It is 4 ele on 15, 17, and 20 and 5 ele on 10, and 12. It is 33 ft long and the boom is at 80 FT. Custom built by Lightning Bolt Antennas in 1995.

In 1967 I got my first commercial radio a Drake T4X R4 receiver. Now running a IC-7800(NOV 2008), L7(USED FOR 20 + YRS), (Replaced with PW-1 Dec 2014) 4&5 element quad antenna (1995).

2025年1月6日 · Circa '88- I interfaced my Drake Twins R4A/T4X to a Commodore 64 pc using a "MicroLog Air1" tnc and into an old 1970's SBE SSTV b&w robot unit..Also ran RTTY/FEC/Amtor using this set up. There's always a way to interface a radio!

If they wind up ahead by selling those old Drake radios - they earned the money.-----What's really bad, for all involved, is when someone amasses a hoard of old radio stuff, stores it improperly and does nothing useful with it.

2020年11月11日 · Paul, I owned two Drake 2B receivers and wish I had kept them both. One had the Q multiplier. And I might yet buy another one just to play with. 2021年7月7日 · I tried it with a Drake T-4XB and about 50 / 60 watts in SSB it is a beast. I've heard you can run it in class C, with a bit more drive, to squeeze even more out. I keep spare a set of 4-400As just in case though - I already blew up an old L-4 by pushing beyond its ability. Both 3-500s popped and the PS erupted in flames.
