A kitchen is operated by a dwarf with the cooking labor enabled. It is used to cook prepared meals and render fat from butchered animals into tallow. Cooking meals applies a quality modifier to each ingredient, which drastically increases the food's value (up to 100×).

2022年12月6日 · You might have figured it out by now. But it automates rendering of fat into tallow in the kitchens. Production of meals and drinks is separate (and drinks are made at a still, not a kitchen)

2013年1月10日 · Do you create a kitchen-ingredient stockpile to safely separate cookable items to "give" to the kitchen? Can fish be cooked (after cleaning)? How do you add Plump Helmets to the kitchen ingredient list without worrying about running out of seeds? When do you do it?

There's probably a better way, but one that leaps to mind is to set up a stockpile with Custom settings, put all the items you don't want cooked in there, then force the kitchen to take from another food stockpile.
ATTENTION: Labor -> Kitchen tab to disable seeds etc for cooking
2022年12月9日 · Seeds seem to be marked as disabled for cooking and brewing by default. What you probably want to do is disable plump helmets for cooking in the other tab here, as apparently that destroys the spawn. My fortress no longer has any plump helmets because of this. seeds were disabled for me by default.

There are three grades of meals you can prepare at a kitchen: Easy (biscuit) requires two cookable items. Fine (stew) requires three cookable items. Lavish (roast) requires four cookable items.
