2019年3月13日 · Though the M3 GT was dedicated to the FIA GT series homologation (meaning it has roughly 50 more horsepower thanks to the upgraded Euro S50B30), the M3 LTW CSL was homologated for the US-specific IMSA Firehawk series. But there’s a quirky story behind this that I’ll get to in just a bit.

The special model BMW E36 M3 Lightweight, designed only for the US market and limited to 125 pieces. Large rear spoiler, M decor and carbon, but less power! The M3 Lightweight is the rarest version of the official M3 E36 series and was never offered in Germany / Europe!

BMW introduced the M3 Lightweight for 1995. This track focused variant of the E36 M3 was over 200lb lighter than the standard model and featured an improved chassis. Fitted with very few luxuries, the M3 Lightweight was only offered in Alpine White featuring checkerboard motorsport decals on the front left and rear right.

2020年1月23日 · M3 Lightweight features included unique front and rear spoilers, manually-adjustable sport seats, carbon fiber trim, reduced sound deadening, and omission of a sunroof and air conditioning system, resulting in weight reduction of approximately 200 pounds compared to a contemporary E36 M3 coupe.

2022年5月7日 · M3-specific upgrades compared to the rest of the E36 range included progressive-rate springs and stiffer dampers, ride height dropped by 30mm, reinforced spring mounting points, modified track arms, reinforced front stub axles, thicker anti-roll bars and rear wheel bearings from the 850i.

LTW was listed as being 225 lb lighter than Std ( 2950 vs, 3175 lbs), but this is deceiving because the LTW is weighed as unladen ( no spare, empty gas tank, etc.), while the std is weighed fully laden. The difference between a full and empty gas tank is approx. 100 lbs. The aluminum doors are worth ~44 lbs.

All LTW’s came with no sunroof. No AC, No radio. Springs and struts are stiffer and lower than standard M3. Wheels are lighter too. Aluminium doors. Reduced sound insulation. Overall the M3 LTW aimed to provide a more focused driving experience compared to the standard US spec E36 M3. You really could’ve googled this.
