On the cusp of fully embracing "WWF Attitude", Vince McMahon had been experimenting with new ideas and presentations, pushing the envelope of his flagship television show.

In 1997, ECW shockingly invaded WWE, competing in sanctioned matches on Raw and engaging in a bitter rivalry with Jerry "The King" Lawler. WWE Classics spoke with Tommy Dreamer and "The King" to get the hardcore truth on this unprecedented turn of events.

On February 24, 1997, ECW "invaded" Raw from the Manhattan Center. They advanced a storyline, plugged their first ever pay-per-view and worked three matches in front of the WWF audience while McMahon called the action with both Jerry "The King" Lawler and Paul Heyman.
