6 天之前 · The GP50 is a 3,500 horsepower model, vs 3,000 horsepower for the GP40/GP40-2. They both use 16 cylinder 645 engines and the GP40-2 was still in production at the same time as the GP50. The external differences are subtle: the main one is that the radiator grilles are taller on the GP50 than the GP40-2.

Realizing that the GP50 was not going to win back market share, the EMD rushed the development of its replacement powerplant, and in 1985 announced the GP60. Almost identical in appearance and performance, it's major advantage was use of the 3800hp 16-cylinder 710G3, its greatly improved reliability and its reduced fuel consumption.

Like it's SD50 sibling, the GP50 used a 16 cylinder 645F3B prime mover rated between 3,500 and 3,600 HP. The GP50 uses the same frame as the GP38, GP38-2, GP39, GP39-2, GP40 and GP40-2.
