The American Red Cross offers continuing education for emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Delivered through our Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for Healthcare Providers, our training opportunities allow EMTs to stay current with their CPR, AED and other basic life support skills for adults, children and infants.

Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) At the forefront of prehospital care and transport, EMTs are equipped with the knowledge and skills to care for critically ill and injured patients. EMTs can serve roles in ambulances as providers or they may be allowed to fill other opportunities in non-transport settings.

EMTs provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.

EMT-Bs work in hospitals and doctor's offices, drive ambulances, and also provide basic emergency care such as stabilizing patients, controlling bleeding and giving oxygen.
