This is one of 3 type XXI boats buried in the Elbe II bunker in Hamburg. The boats trapped there are U-2505, U-3004 and U-3506. They are lying on the surface at low tide but are not accessible to the casual observer and stationed on private property.

Because of the increasing intensity of air-raids, "Elbe II" was used for fitting out boats, new ones and those having happily returned. Two shifts were covered by 200 yard-workers, mostly Germans. Inside the Elbe II bunker in 1996.

Sources vary as to whether or not the Germans were the ones to destroy them or if they were still afloat when the British captured the pen, but what is known is the Type VIIC submarines were outside and the three Type XXI s were within the structure.

At the end of 1945 the entrance of the bunker was blown by British engineers. The bunker itself still exists, but is accessible for public.
