The bay is sandwiched between the golf course and the convict ruins in Kingston. It is protected from the ocean, and sharks, by a coral reef, which also stops the surf, thereby rending it reasonably save to swim.

Emily Bay is real postcard material, with an arc of sandy beach, its crystal clear waters, and a backdrop of towering Norfolk Island pines. It is very protected and offers safe swimming as well as snorkelling (although I actually preferred nearby Slaughter Bay for snorkelling). Emily Bay is also an excellent spot for picnics.

The coral ref, complete with fish and molluscs, is just a few yards out and ideal for snorkelling. The raft is one of the favourite meeting places for the young Norfolk Islanders.
