由于不能再继续使用宝马蓝天白云车标，所以这家老牌车企重新了修改了车标并命名为EMW（ Eisenacher Motorenwerk）把蓝天白云改为“红天白云”也比较符合当时社会主义红色的象征。

Der EMW 340 war ein Pkw des Eisenacher Motorenwerkes, der von 1949 bis 1955 hergestellt wurde, seit 1951 als weiterentwickelter EMW 340-2. Er basierte auf dem Vorkriegsmodell BMW 326, das weiterentwickelt und mit einem überarbeiteten Front- und Heckbereich versehen wurde.

Das alte Eisenacher BMW-Werk nahm 1945 unter Awtowelo-Ägide den Bau des 321 wieder auf. Die nach dem Krieg auf DDR-Gebiet liegende Fabrik… …musste sich nach einem Gerichtsbeschluss 1952 umbenennen und hieß fortan EMW. Der viertürige Typ 340 basierte auf dem früheren BMW 326.
