On-going research in the capabilities of EVLP to recondition injured lungs, expand preservation time, and reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury have made important strides towards achieving clinical translation.

Among potential alternatives to address this issue, ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) has emerged as a modern preservation technique that allows for more accurate lung assessment and also improvement of lung function.
