In this unit, students write autobiographies, illustrate them, and set them to music. Music is a powerful tool to evoke emotion, and students will carefully select songs to accompany the stories from their lives. Students brainstorm lists of important events in their lives, along with images and music that represent those events.

Over the next month, we will be creating visual autobiographies that will allow us to learn more about the individuals in our classroom community. Each day, a few students will be “featured” and will be able to share the story of their past, present and future.

Students learn about different types of autobiographies, listen to sample autobiographies and are provided with tips on creating an autobiography. Mentors use the “All About Me” form to create their own autobiography and then share their responses/autobiographies with the mentees.
